I'm studying MIS course as part
of my accounting major at Higher Colleges of Technology - Dubai Women College.
In this course we had 3 projects, the first one was Web 2.0 project which
includes new programs, technology and social media and we have to explain a
program. To complete this project we had to have a G-mail account to use Google
chrome more easily. There were 12 programs: Google Chrome, Blogger, Google
Sites, Google Drive, Drop Box, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Picase, Google
plus, Diigo, Google Maps and Prezi. My program was Prezi (www.prezi.com), I chose prezi because I'm
interested in designing and editing and I had a background in doing prezi,
that's why I thought that I will be able to deliver this subject to the
students and help them to be experts in it. Prezi can help you to have a more
professional presentation and will improve your overall work and look.
Moreover, the smooth and flow of prezi presentation is what made it
successful.
In my opinion, the most useful program is Google chrome, because it made everything much easier and it also contains programs in it that helps a lot to finish your daily tasks. The second programs are both Google + and Diigo, because in Google plus we can post what we want, start a video, start a hangout and view and find other people. Whereas in Diigo, it helped me a lot while doing my projects and researches, because I was able to make notes, save the text I want, save pictures, capture what I need and share it with my group. The third program is Google calender where it helped me to organize my work and scheduled, I was able to have all my calenders in one place, and it’s a great time management tool. The fourth program is Prezi, where as I said before, it's excellent for presenting your subject. The fifth program is Google docs, I was able to prepare and have my document online and share it with sending a link only, and it took much less time. The sixth program is Google drive and drop box, where it made my life much easier because now I can have my pictures and files with me all the time in my laptop and my phone. The seventh program is Google Maps, this program always help me when I need directions, I always use it in my phone when I'm driving, I count on it more than the car's GPS. The eighth programs are Google sites and Blogger; these programs are useful for the daily life posts or diaries. Moreover, knowing how to have my own site will help me a lot in the future if I decided to have one. The last program is Picase, which is a fast way to edit photos. Doing this project will improve our skills in our personal and professional life. In addition, implementing these programs will help in making our life easier and it requires much less effort and time if you understand how to use them. The second project was the Peer teaching project, where each group chose a topic to teach other students about it. The topics were chapter 5 - IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies, chapter 6 Databases and Information Management, chapter 7 - Telecommunications, the Internet and Wireless Technology, chapter 9 - Enterprise Applications and chapter 10 - Digital Markets and Digital Goods. Me and my friend chose chapter 10 about E-commerce digital markets and digital goods since it looked fun an interesting chapter. We were asked to deliver our subject in a fun way and keep it interesting, that's why I did my presentation in prezi to include activities, pictures and videos more easily and to have a fun theme and design. After this project, when all the groups explained their chapters, I learned a very useful and interesting information about the computers, networks, internet, security and online shopping, and this will absolutely help me in my career because now I feel that I'm more prepared to face the work community, I have the requires skills and I feel more confident. The last project was the practical application project, where we had the chance to practically imply what we learned in both projects and this practice will help us to really understand our projects since we were doing them by our own. We were asked to do a Blog, which is the blog I'm posting in it and a Google site to implement what we learnt in the 12 programs in the first project.
